Nagaland Statehood Day Observed at Lok Bhavan in Agartala

Nagaland Statehood Day was observed on Monday at Lok Bhavan in Agartala with solemnity and cultural pride. Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu extended his warm greetings to the people of Nagaland and highlighted the rich cultural heritage and traditions of the state during his address.

Speaking at the programme, the Governor praised Nagaland’s diverse tribal culture, vibrant customs, and its significant contribution to the cultural mosaic of India. He noted that Nagaland continues to inspire the nation through its unity, resilience, and unique identity.

Nagaland was formally inaugurated as the 16th state of the Indian Union on December 1, 1963, following the passage of the ‘Nagaland State Act’ in 1962. A democratically elected government took office the following year, in 1964. Prior to attaining statehood, the region had been a part of Assam and was later administered as a union territory comprising the Naga Hills and Tuensang Frontier Division.

Statehood Day holds special significance for the people of Nagaland, symbolising their cultural identity, autonomy, and heritage. The day also marks the beginning of the world-famous Hornbill Festival, a major cultural celebration that showcases the traditions and artistic diversity of the Naga tribes.
