India Secures Spot in 2026 AFC U-17 Asian Cup After 2-1 Triumph Over Iran
Dec 01, 2025India’s men’s U-17 football team clinched a historic qualification to the 2026 AFC U-17 Asian Cup after defeating Iran 2-1 in a crucial qualifier match at the EKA Arena in Ahmedabad.
The hard-fought victory lifted India to the top of Group D with 7 points—level with Iran but ahead on the head-to-head record—ensuring their place in next year’s tournament, which will be held in Saudi Arabia.
Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, congratulated the young squad for their outstanding achievement. In a social media post, he praised the dedication of the players, coaches, and support staff, noting that the win reflects the team’s commitment and hard work.
This qualification adds to a landmark year for Indian football, making the U-17 boys’ team the fourth Indian side to reach an Asian Cup in 2026, alongside the senior women’s team, the U-20 women’s team, and the U-17 women’s team.
