India Crush Chile 7–0 in Dominant Start to 2025 Men’s FIH Hockey Junior World Cup

Hosts India opened their Men’s FIH Hockey Junior World Cup 2025 campaign in emphatic fashion, thrashing Chile 7–0 in their first Pool B match at the Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium in Chennai.

Led by captain Rohit, part of an 18-member Indian squad coached by two-time Olympic bronze medallist PR Sreejesh, the team displayed complete control from start to finish to secure a commanding victory. India, who have previously won the Junior World Cup twice, share Pool B with Chile, Oman and Switzerland.

India’s win capped off a successful opening day for several tournament heavyweights. Defending champions Germany, Argentina, and Belgium also began their campaigns with victories.

In Group A, Germany showcased their pedigree with a 4–0 win over South Africa in Madurai. The seven-time champions top the group with three points, followed by Ireland, who edged Canada 4–3 in a closely contested match. Canada and South Africa remain without points.

In the other Pool B fixture, Switzerland defeated Oman 4–0 to join India at the top of the group standings.

Action in Group C saw two-time champions Argentina beat Japan 4–1, while New Zealand claimed a 5–3 victory over China.
In Group D, Belgium overwhelmed debutants Namibia 12–1 in one of the biggest wins of the day, and Spain cruised past Egypt 8–0 in Madurai.

This year’s tournament is the largest in Junior World Cup history, featuring 24 teams competing across Chennai and Madurai. The teams are divided into six groups of four, playing in a round-robin format, with each group winner advancing to the quarterfinals. The 2025 edition marks the 14th Junior Men’s Hockey World Cup.
