ARDD Minister distributes livestock and fisheries aid to boost rural economy

Fatikroy witnessed a strong push for rural livelihood development on Thursday as Tripura’s Animal Resources Development (ARD) Department and Fisheries Department jointly rolled out a new support drive for beneficiaries across Unakoti district. The event also saw the SC Welfare Department extend sports gear to Scheduled Caste hostels, adding a holistic touch to the outreach effort.

The programme, organised at Nazrul Kala Kendra, was inaugurated by ARD Minister Sudhanshu Das, who highlighted the state government’s objective of empowering economically weaker farming households. He stated that Tripura has made notable strides in meat production, but gaps remain in egg and milk output—areas the government now aims to strengthen through targeted schemes.

Under the Chief Minister’s ARD Yojana, poultry chicks and ducklings were distributed to help families expand their small-scale livestock activities. To meet the consistently high demand for fish in the state, the Fisheries Department handed out nets, ice boxes, and financial aid to fish farmers, enabling them to scale up operations and reduce dependence on imports.

Minister Das underscored that these interventions are intended not just as one-time assistance but as stepping stones toward sustainable livelihood security for marginalized communities.

Unakoti Zilla Parishad Sabhadhipati Amlendu Das, Kumarghat Panchayat Samiti Chairperson Sumati Das, departmental secretary Deepa D Nair, Unakoti District Magistrate Dr. Tamal Majumder and other senior officials were present at the ceremony. Beneficiaries expressed their appreciation, noting that the support would make a significant difference in their daily lives.
