Chaos Erupts at Adiala Jail as Rumors of Imran Khan’s Death Spark PTI Protests
Nov 27, 2025
Tensions soared outside Adiala Jail on Wednesday as thousands of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) supporters gathered amid unverified rumors claiming that former Prime Minister Imran Khan had died in custody. Khan, who has been imprisoned for over two years in connection with a corruption case, has remained unreachable for his supporters, fueling widespread panic and outrage.
The unrest escalated after Khan’s sisters — Noreen Niazi, Aleema Khan, and Uzma Khan — alleged that they were brutally assaulted by police while attempting to visit him. In a letter to Punjab Police Chief Usman Anwar, Noreen Niazi, 71, described being seized by her hair, thrown to the ground, and dragged across the road, sustaining visible injuries during what she termed a “deliberate and orchestrated attack.”
“Despite protesting peacefully, we were attacked without warning, after the streetlights were abruptly switched off, plunging the area into darkness,” Noreen wrote, demanding an official investigation into the incident.
Social media accounts from Balochistan and Afghanistan amplified claims of Khan’s alleged death, directly blaming Army Chief General Asim Munir and the ISI. These reports remain unverified, but they have fueled anger among PTI supporters, some of whom reportedly attempted to storm the jail in protest.
The former Prime Minister’s sisters have maintained a vigil outside Adiala Jail, calling for transparency and an inquiry into both Khan’s treatment and the police assault they endured.
