Pakistani Airstrike in Afghanistan’s Khost Province Kills Nine Children, Kabul Says

At least ten civilians, including nine children, were killed when Pakistani air forces carried out a strike on a residential area in Afghanistan’s Khost province early Tuesday, according to the Afghan government.

Zabihullah Mujahid, spokesman for the caretaker Afghan government, said the attack occurred shortly after midnight in the Mughalgai area of Gurbuz district. The airstrike targeted the home of a local resident, he added.

“This brutal act resulted in the martyrdom of nine children and other civilians,” Mujahid said, condemning the strike as a violation of Afghanistan’s sovereignty.

The incident has reignited concerns over rising tensions along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border, a region long plagued by cross-border shelling, militant activity, and periodic military escalations. It comes after a short period of relative calm following heavy clashes between the two sides in October.

Officials in Kabul warned that the latest attack risks triggering another cycle of violence unless immediate steps are taken to de-escalate the situation.
