Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha on Monday reiterated that the state government will not compromise on the improvement of education and healthcare services. Inaugurating the appointment letter distribution ceremony for Physical Education Teachers and Special Educators at Muktadhara Auditorium, the Chief Minister said the government is committed to ensuring that there is no shortage of skilled human resources in these key sectors.
The Chief Minister informed that a total of 20,018 people, including those under the die-in-harness scheme, have been provided government jobs across various departments so far. Of them, 6,198 candidates have been appointed in the Education Department as PGTs, GTs, and UGTs. On Monday, the government handed over appointment letters to 102 Physical Education Teachers and 55 Special Educators.
Highlighting transparency in recruitment, Dr. Saha said the present government has ensured a fair, merit-based hiring process. “No one can now say that jobs are given based on political identity. If one has merit, one will certainly get a job,” he said. The Chief Minister praised the newly appointed candidates, noting that their confidence and demeanour reflect their eligibility.
Describing the day as memorable for the recruited candidates and their families, he advised them to stay updated, prepare well before entering classrooms, and treat classrooms with the reverence of a temple. He also mentioned his continued connection with his own teachers, encouraging the new recruits to maintain similar respect and dedication.
Speaking on educational reforms, Dr. Saha highlighted that the National Education Policy (NEP) was implemented under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, aiming to revive India’s traditional knowledge systems. He further stated that more than 5,000 people have so far been engaged in contractual and outsourcing positions in the state.
The Chief Minister also outlined several initiatives undertaken for the development of Tripura’s education sector, including NIPUN Tripura, CM SATH, Mission Mukul, Saharsh, uplifting 125 schools to Vidyajyoti status, 84 schools to PM-SHRI level, and the introduction of the CM Kanya Atmanirbhar Yojana. The state now hosts three MBBS colleges, nursing institutions, ANM and GNM colleges, and various specialized institutions including Agriculture, Fisheries, and Veterinary colleges, as well as IIIT, National Law University, National Forensic Sciences University, NIT, and several private universities.
Dr. Saha also highlighted the success of the Lakshya Project, which has supported 10 aspirants preparing for national-level competitive exams. Referring to the recent North East Business Summit held in New Delhi, he said Tripura alone signed MoUs worth ₹15,000 crore, out of the total ₹30,000 crore signed with eight northeastern states. “This has been possible because the state upholds the rule of law,” he said.
In the event, Special Secretary Ravel Hemendra Kumar emphasized the need to promote teamwork among students and noted that around 3,500 differently-abled students are currently enrolled across 1,200 schools in the state. Director of School Education N.C. Sharma stated that Physical Education Teachers will be posted in Vidyajyoti Schools and Special Educators will work with differently-abled students.
The ceremony was attended by senior officials of the Education Department, including Rajib Dutta, Director of Elementary Education, and L. Charling, Director of SCERT, along with the parents of the newly appointed candidates.
