CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Reviews Swahid Smarak Khetra Ahead of Swahid Divas Inauguration

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday inspected the ongoing works at the Swahid Smarak Khetra, a memorial being constructed to honour those who lost their lives during the Assam Agitation. The memorial is scheduled to be inaugurated on December 10, coinciding with Swahid Divas.

Located in Boragaon, the Swahid Smarak Khetra was conceptualised as a tribute to the martyrs of the Assam Movement, with its foundation stone laid in 2019. The site includes water bodies, an auditorium, a prayer hall, a cycle track, and facilities for a sound-and-light show depicting the Assam Agitation and the state’s historical journey.

During his visit, the Chief Minister reviewed various components of the project and directed officials to ensure the timely completion of all remaining work. He also suggested improvements to enhance the memorial’s aesthetic, structural, and commemorative aspects.

Sarma said the memorial should stand as a lasting symbol of Assam’s gratitude to its martyrs and serve as a place for future generations to remember their sacrifices.

The Swahid Smarak Khetra will be formally unveiled on December 10, observed as Swahid Divas to commemorate the supreme sacrifices made during the Assam Movement.
