Shillong to Host Regional AI Conference as Meghalaya Unveils New Tech Roadmap

Shillong is preparing to host the Regional AI Impact Conference on December 3, a major technology event jointly organised by the Meghalaya government and the IndiaAI Mission under the Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. The conference will take place at the State Convention Centre as part of a nationwide series leading up to the India–AI Impact Summit 2026.

Centred on the theme “AI for Citizens’ Empowerment: Smarter Governance, Better Lives,” the event will bring together senior government officials, global technology firms, academic institutions, startups and industry experts. Discussions will explore the growing role of artificial intelligence in governance, climate resilience, public service delivery and building safer, more inclusive communities.

The state’s IT & Communications Department is serving as the nodal agency, with IIM Shillong partnering as the knowledge advisor for the conference. The IndiaAI Mission team will also conduct a dedicated session detailing the Centre’s ongoing AI initiatives and national priorities.

Alongside the main sessions, a showcase arena will host demonstrations of AI-driven solutions, innovation pitches, ideation workshops and networking opportunities for innovators and stakeholders.

Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, who will attend as the chief guest, is expected to unveil key components of Meghalaya’s forthcoming AI roadmap, outlining the state’s vision to position itself as an emerging regional leader in technology and digital innovation.
