Nitish Kumar, president of the Janata Dal (United), was sworn in on Thursday as the Chief Minister of Bihar for a record tenth term. The oath of office was administered by Governor Arif Mohammed Khan at Patna’s historic Gandhi Maidan.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with senior Union Ministers Amit Shah, J. P. Nadda, Chirag Paswan, and several other NDA leaders, attended the ceremony.
A total of 27 ministers, including Kumar, took the oath as members of the new Bihar cabinet. The BJP’s Samrat Choudhary, Vijay Kumar Sinha, Dilip Jaiswal, Mangal Pandey, Nitin Nabin, and Ram Kripal Yadav were sworn in as ministers, while the JD(U) was represented by Leshi Singh, Shrawan Kumar, Bijendra Prasad Yadav, Zama Khan, and Ashok Chaudhary.
The swearing-in follows the NDA’s sweeping victory in the recently concluded Bihar Assembly elections, where the alliance secured 202 seats in the 243-member house. The BJP won 89 seats, the JD(U) 85, Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) 19, Hindustani Awam Morcha 5, and the Rashtriya Lok Morcha 4. The opposition Mahagathbandhan managed just 35 seats.
Prime Minister Modi congratulated Kumar on assuming office again, describing him as an experienced administrator with a proven track record of good governance. He also extended wishes to newly appointed Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, praising their grassroots experience and commitment to public service.
In his message, the Prime Minister said he hoped the new council of ministers would work as a dedicated and capable team to lead Bihar toward greater progress.
