Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Wednesday chaired the seventh Pre-Budget Consultation meeting with experts from the banking, financial services and insurance (BFSI) sectors in New Delhi, as part of the preparations for the Union Budget 2026–27.
The meeting saw the participation of Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary, senior officials from the Ministry of Finance, including the Chief Economic Adviser, and secretaries from key departments. Sector experts presented their expectations and recommendations for the upcoming budget, focusing on measures to strengthen the financial system and support economic growth.
This consultation followed a similar round of meetings held on Tuesday with representatives from the start-up ecosystem and capital markets. The Finance Ministry conducts multiple pre-budget meetings every year to gather insights from industry leaders, economists, policy experts and state officials. These deliberations aim to ensure that the Union Budget reflects diverse perspectives and effectively addresses emerging economic challenges and priorities.
