Nov 19, 2025
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said that nearly 100 crore Indians are now covered under various social security schemes, a steep rise from around 25 crore in 2014. He made the remarks while participating in the Centenary Celebrations of Bhagwan Sri Sathya Sai Baba at Puttaparthi in Andhra Pradesh.
Marking the occasion, the Prime Minister released a special ₹100 commemorative coin and a set of postage stamps honouring the life and legacy of Sri Sathya Sai Baba. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu joined him for the release ceremony.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Modi said that being in Puttaparthi has always been an emotional and spiritual experience for him. He described service as the guiding principle of Indian civilisation and said the teachings of Sri Sathya Sai Baba—Love All, Serve All; Help Ever, Hurt Never; and Less Talk, More Work—continue to inspire millions worldwide.
The Prime Minister praised the Sri Sathya Sai Central Trust for its extensive work across healthcare, education, rural development, drinking water supply, nutrition, housing and clean energy. He also recalled the Trust’s vital contributions during the Gujarat earthquake.
Highlighting the financial empowerment of girls, Mr. Modi noted that the Trust recently helped open 20,000 Sukanya Samruddhi Yojana accounts. Nationwide, more than four crore such accounts have been opened so far, accumulating savings of nearly ₹3.5 lakh crore.
Emphasising India’s progress toward the goal of Viksit Bharat, the Prime Minister urged citizens to actively participate in nation-building and support the Vocal for Local initiative by purchasing locally made products.
