Political Activity Intensifies in Bihar as NDA Moves Toward Government Formation
Nov 16, 2025
Political activity in Bihar has intensified as the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) accelerates efforts to form the next government in the state. The official residence of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar in Patna has emerged as the centre of key deliberations, with several rounds of meetings held among leaders of the alliance.
On Sunday, senior NDA leaders—including Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai, Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha, and Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM) president Upendra Kushwaha—met Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to discuss the contours of the new government. Legislature party meetings of NDA’s smaller allies, including the Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) and the Rashtriya Lok Morcha, are also scheduled for the day to elect their respective leaders.
The Janata Dal (United) has summoned all its 85 newly elected MLAs to Patna for a legislature party meeting, during which Nitish Kumar is expected to be re-elected as the party’s leader. The Bharatiya Janata Party’s legislature party meeting is likely to be held tomorrow.
Once all NDA constituent parties finalize their legislature party leaders, a joint meeting of all 202 newly elected NDA MLAs will be convened to elect the leader of the NDA legislature party. Following this, the alliance will formally stake its claim to form the government by submitting letters of support from MLAs to the Governor.
Meanwhile, the current government’s cabinet will meet for the last time on Monday under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. During this meeting, a recommendation is expected to be made to dissolve the existing cabinet, clearing the way for the formation of the new NDA government in Bihar.
