NDA Set for Landslide Victory as Early Trends Emerge in Bihar Assembly Elections

The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) appears headed for a sweeping victory in the Bihar Assembly elections, with early trends showing the coalition leading in more than 190 of the state’s 243 seats. Counting of votes, underway amid tight security across the state, indicates a significant setback for the opposition RJD-led Mahagathbandhan, which is trailing in all regions.

According to the latest trends available for all 243 seats, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is leading in 91 constituencies, while its ally, the Janata Dal (United), has taken the lead in 81 seats. Other NDA partners, including Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) and Hindustani Awam Morcha, are leading in 21 and 4 seats respectively.

On the opposition side, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) is ahead in 27 seats, while the Congress is leading in 4 seats. Independents and smaller parties account for leads in 19 constituencies. The much-anticipated debut of Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj Party has not translated into leads in the early trends.

Several high-profile candidates of the ruling alliance are performing strongly. Both Deputy Chief Ministers, Vijay Kumar Sinha and Samrat Choudhary, are leading in their respective constituencies. BJP’s Maithili Thakur holds a lead in Alinagar, while senior party leader Mangal Pandey is ahead in Siwan. In Gaya Town, veteran BJP leader Dr. Prem Kumar is also leading.

In a surprising development, Mahagathbandhan’s chief ministerial candidate Tejashwi Prasad Yadav is trailing behind BJP’s Satish Kumar in Raghopur, traditionally considered an RJD stronghold.

With the NDA widening its lead, jubilant scenes have emerged at the JD(U) office in Patna, where supporters have begun early celebrations.

The counting process is being managed by 243 Returning Officers and 243 Counting Observers, with over 18,000 counting agents participating to ensure transparency. Security has been intensified statewide, with a two-tier arrangement involving Central Armed Police Forces at the inner cordon and Bihar Police at the outer perimeter. A network of CCTV cameras and round-the-clock monitoring has been deployed at all counting centres.

Bihar registered a record voter turnout of 67.13% during the two-phase polling conducted on November 6 and 11.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has urged citizens and media outlets to rely solely on its official results portal for verified updates and warned against circulating or trusting information from unofficial sources.

Official results will be declared as counting progresses.
