National Tribal Film Festival and Carnival Begins in Imphal

The four-day National Tribal Film Festival and Carnival commenced on Wednesday in Imphal, the capital of Manipur, as part of the Janjatiya Gaurav Varsh celebrations. The event aims to highlight India’s rich tribal heritage through the medium of cinema and cultural performances.

The festival is showcasing 23 tribal films from nine states, including Maharashtra, Odisha, West Bengal, and six states from the Northeast. Screenings and cultural programmes are being held at the City Convention Centre and the Manipur State Film Development Society (MSFDS) complex.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, Manipur’s Additional Chief Secretary Anurag Bajpai said the festival seeks to promote and celebrate tribal cinema, culture, and creative expression from across the country’s diverse tribal communities.

The celebration is part of the ongoing Janjatiya Gaurav Varsh, a year-long commemoration marking the 150th birth anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda, the revered tribal leader and freedom fighter who played a pivotal role in India’s independence movement.

The festival will continue till November 15, featuring film screenings, cultural performances, and interactive sessions aimed at encouraging artistic collaboration and the preservation of tribal traditions through cinema.
