Bomb Blasts, Gunfire Rock Dhaka Ahead of Political Lockdown; City on High Alert
Nov 11, 2025A wave of bomb blasts, sporadic gunfire, and arson attacks has rattled the streets of Dhaka, raising security concerns just days before a politically charged “Dhaka Lockdown” scheduled for November 13.
Late Monday night, unidentified assailants carried out a series of crude bomb explosions in multiple parts of the capital, including Motijheel, Paltan, and Mirpur. Reports indicate that several vehicles and roadside shops were set ablaze, prompting swift responses from police and fire services.
In addition to the explosions, sporadic gunfire was reported in parts of the city, causing panic among residents. While no casualties have been officially confirmed, the incidents have unsettled local communities and heightened fears of escalating violence ahead of the upcoming demonstrations.
Authorities have described the attacks as “acts of sabotage” aimed at creating fear and disruption ahead of the banned Awami League’s planned lockdown. The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) and other law enforcement agencies have ramped up security measures, deploying additional patrols and conducting large-scale drills across the city.
Security forces have also intensified surveillance in sensitive areas, including government installations, public transport hubs, and commercial districts, in a bid to prevent further attacks.
