Assam Govt Felicitates Uma Chetry with Rs 25 Lakh Grant for World Cup Heroics

In a gesture celebrating sporting excellence, the Assam government has approved a Rs 25 lakh financial grant for cricketer Uma Chetry in recognition of her outstanding performance at the 2025 ICC Women’s World Cup, where Team India clinched the championship title.

The decision was taken during a Cabinet meeting held on Saturday, chaired by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Uma Chetry, a wicketkeeper-batter hailing from Golaghat, played a crucial role in India’s victorious campaign, drawing acclaim from teammates, coaches, and fans alike for her composure and skill behind the stumps.

The Chief Minister noted that the grant is part of the state’s continued efforts to promote and support sportspersons from Assam who bring laurels to the state and the nation through their achievements on national and international platforms.

“Uma Chetry’s success has made Assam proud and serves as an inspiration for young athletes across the state. We are committed to fostering such talent,” Sarma said following the Cabinet meeting.
