Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday praised India’s Northeast region, describing it as the country’s emerging “forward face” that embodies connectivity, culture, and commerce.
Responding to an article by Union Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia on social media platform X, Modi highlighted the region’s growing importance in India’s development narrative.
“In this insightful article, Union Minister JM Scindia shares his experience of visiting the North East, describing its beauty and the indomitable spirit of its people. Highlighting the North East as ‘Ashtalakshmi,’ the Minister explains how it is becoming India’s natural gateway to Southeast Asia. He emphasises that the North East is not just India’s frontier; it is now its forward face,” the Prime Minister wrote.
In his article, Scindia described the region as one of breathtaking beauty and unmatched human spirit. Recalling his visit to Assam and Meghalaya, he said he was “deeply moved and profoundly inspired” by his interactions with the people, which reinforced his commitment to the Northeast’s continued development.
Scindia attributed the region’s transformation to Prime Minister Modi’s visionary leadership and his focus on turning challenges into opportunities.
Over the past decade, the Modi government has launched multiple initiatives to boost infrastructure, connectivity, and economic integration in the Northeast, positioning it as a vital link in India’s Act East Policy and a gateway to Southeast Asia.
