Buddha’s Sacred Relics Arrive in Bhutan for Global Peace Prayer Festival

The sacred relics of Lord Buddha have arrived in Bhutan for an eleven-day public exposition as part of the Global Peace Prayer Festival in Thimphu. The exposition aims to promote global harmony and the healing of humanity.

A delegation led by India’s Union Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment, Dr. Virendra Kumar, carried the revered relics aboard an Indian Air Force aircraft from the Palam Airbase in New Delhi. The relics, which are ordinarily enshrined at the National Museum in New Delhi, will be displayed for public veneration at the Kuenrey Hall of Tashichho Dzong in Thimphu.

According to the Ministry of Culture, the event is being held to mark the 70th birth anniversary of Bhutan’s Fourth King, His Majesty Jigme Singye Wangchuk. The Global Peace Prayer Festival serves as a major interfaith event, bringing together spiritual leaders and devotees to pray for world peace and collective well-being.

The exposition of the sacred relics symbolizes the deep cultural and spiritual ties between India and Bhutan and reflects the shared Buddhist heritage that continues to inspire peace, compassion, and unity across the region.
