One Dead, Several Students Injured in Monfort School Bus Accident


A tragic road accident occurred on the Kathaltali Bypass Road on Friday when a Monfort School bus lost control and crashed, leaving several students injured and one woman dead.

According to eyewitnesses, residents heard a loud noise and rushed out of their homes to find the school bus severely damaged and stopped in the middle of the road. A woman was found lying on the ground in critical condition.

Local sources identified the deceased as Khola Sarkar (52), a resident of the Bypass Rail Bridge area. She was reportedly feeding her goats by the roadside, as she did every morning, when the accident took place. Sarkar was initially taken to Hapania Hospital in a critical condition and later shifted to GB Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.

Around eight to nine students from Monfort School sustained injuries and were admitted to Hapania Hospital for treatment. Doctors have confirmed that all the injured students are now out of danger.

Following the incident, Tripura State Commission for Protection of Child Rights Chairperson Jayanti Debbarma, along with her team, visited the hospital to check on the condition of the injured students and assess their care.
