Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ratan lal Nath on Friday visited the verdant paddy fields of Lankamura village in Borjala, where local farmers are cultivating multiple indigenous varieties of rice with support from the Agriculture Department.

During his visit, Minister Nath inspected the crops along with departmental officials and interacted with the farmers in the field of Bishnupada Adhikari, who has cultivated six traditional paddy varieties—Kali Khasha, Hari Narayan, Kala Namak, Bashpati, among others—across five kani of land.

The Minister also joined the farmers in harvesting the Bashpati variety, symbolizing solidarity with the cultivators whose hard work sustains the rural economy. Speaking on the occasion, Nath lauded the farmers’ dedication and expressed satisfaction over the department’s efforts to promote high-yield and indigenous paddy varieties.

Officials from the Agriculture Department said the current year’s yield is expected to be encouraging, attributing the success to timely rainfall, improved cultivation methods, and farmers’ commitment.
