CM Dr. Manik Saha flags off Year-Long Celebration to Mark 150 Years of ‘Vande Mataram’

Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Friday launched a year-long celebration marking the 150th anniversary of ‘Vande Mataram’, the iconic national song penned by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay, whose words stirred the spirit of India’s freedom movement.

The launch ceremony, held at the State Secretariat premises, witnessed an atmosphere charged with patriotism as Dr. Saha joined officials, students, and citizens in a collective rendition of the national song.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister described ‘Vande Mataram’ as a “timeless mantra of nation-building” that continues to inspire generations of Indians. “In every word and rhythm of ‘Vande Mataram’, one can feel an overwhelming sense of pride and devotion to our motherland,” Dr. Saha said.

The initiative follows Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call to observe the 150th year of ‘Vande Mataram’ nationwide. During the event, Dr. Saha also tuned in to the Prime Minister’s virtual address, where Mr. Modi reflected on the song’s enduring power to awaken patriotism and unity among citizens.

Expressing gratitude to the Prime Minister for his inspirational message, Dr. Saha said he was confident that the celebration would instill in the younger generation a deeper sense of national pride and commitment to selfless service.

“The message of ‘Vande Mataram’ transcends time — it reminds us that love for our motherland is the foundation of every great nation,” the Chief Minister added.

The state government is expected to organize a series of cultural and educational programs throughout the year to commemorate the milestone and spread awareness about the historical and cultural significance of ‘Vande Mataram’.
