External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar on Wednesday highlighted the crucial role of the India-Japan partnership in maintaining strategic stability and fostering prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region.
Addressing the 8th India-Japan Indo-Pacific Forum in New Delhi, Dr. Jaishankar said that the relationship between the two nations has deepened over the decades and holds greater significance than ever before. He stressed the importance of leveraging mutual strengths to strengthen supply chains and enhance cooperation in areas such as artificial intelligence, semiconductors, critical minerals, clean energy, and space technology.
“As two major democracies and maritime nations, India and Japan share a wider responsibility towards ensuring peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific,” Dr. Jaishankar said, adding that the Indo-Pacific Oceans’ Initiative provides a valuable framework for advancing collective contributions.
Referring to the recent conversation between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Japan’s new Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi following her assumption of office, Dr. Jaishankar said the exchange reflected the priority both countries place on their partnership.
The External Affairs Minister also mentioned his meeting with Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi on the sidelines of the East Asia Summit in Kuala Lumpur, where both leaders agreed to hold a detailed review soon to further strengthen bilateral cooperation.
