Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ratanlal Nath on Tuesday urged farmers across the state to adopt modern agricultural machinery and scientific methods to enhance crop productivity and ensure food security.
The minister was speaking after laying the foundation stone of the Tulashikhar Primary Rural Market at Tulashikhar Bazar. The double-storey rural market will be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 5.73 crore.
Highlighting the importance of modern practices in agriculture, Nath said that the nation’s food security largely depends on farmers, and it is crucial to equip them with advanced tools and technology. He informed that the state currently has 554 markets, including 84 wholesale markets, 21 agri-producing markets, and 470 rural primary markets.
In the Khowai district, 14 markets are under construction with an investment of Rs 30.82 crore, while additional projects worth around Rs 17 crore are in the pipeline. Nath added that the present state government is emphasizing development across multiple sectors—education, health, communication, drinking water, agriculture, power, and housing.
Forest Minister Animesh Debbarma, who also spoke at the event, said that further investments will be made to develop markets in the Tulashikhar block and improve irrigation facilities for farmers.
The programme was attended by several dignitaries, including TTADC Khowai Zonal Chairman Bishu Debbarma, Chief Officer of TTADC Forest Department Jibon Debbarma, and others.
