In a major development in the probe into the death of celebrated singer Zubeen Garg, Singaporean authorities have handed over the post-mortem and toxicology reports to the Assam Police, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed on Friday.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of an event in Guwahati, Sarma said the documents were shared under the Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty (MLAT) between India and Singapore. “When our Special Investigation Team (SIT) visited Singapore, the authorities assured full cooperation. Today, they have formally sent the post-mortem and toxicology reports along with relevant documents and guidelines,” the Chief Minister said.
Garg, 52, tragically passed away on September 19 while swimming in the sea in Singapore. Following his death, the Assam government constituted a 10-member SIT to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The investigation has already led to the arrest of seven individuals, all of whom are currently in judicial custody. According to Sarma, the SIT has made significant progress and is preparing to file the chargesheet by December 17, within the legally mandated 90-day period.
“The SIT is confident about ensuring justice for Zubeen. By the time the chargesheet is filed, people will understand the depth of their work,” Sarma added.
