Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday paid homage to the victims of the 2008 serial bomb blasts, one of the deadliest terror attacks in the state’s history, which claimed 88 lives and injured more than 500 people.
Marking the 17th anniversary of the tragedy, Sarma described October 30, 2008, as a “dark day” for Assam and reiterated his government’s commitment to maintaining lasting peace and harmony across the state.
“October 30, 2008, will always remain a dark day in Assam’s history as it witnessed the most dastardly attack on its soil. As we mark this solemn occasion, I pay my tributes to all those who lost their lives and vow to never let Assam return to those dark days,” the Chief Minister said in a post on X.
The coordinated explosions, carried out by the Ranjan Daimary-led faction of the National Democratic Front of Boroland (NDFB), had rocked Guwahati, Kokrajhar, Barpeta, and Bongaigaon districts, leaving a trail of devastation and fear.
