Amid growing unease between the BJP and its ally TIPRA Motha, as well as signs of internal friction within the ruling party, BJP national spokesperson and Northeast coordinator Dr. Sambit Patra held a closed-door meeting at the party’s state headquarters in Agartala on Wednesday.
BJP president and MP Rajib Bhattacharjee, state in-charge Dr. Rajdeep Roy, MP Biplab Kumar Deb, former Union MoS Pratima Bhoumik, several Cabinet ministers, and party legislators including Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha were present in the meeting.
The discussions reportedly centred around strengthening the party structure, addressing internal grievances, and improving coordination with TIPRA Motha ahead of the upcoming village committee elections.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Rajib Bhattacharjee said the main agenda was to push Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Har Ghar Swadeshi, Vocal for Local’ initiative, and to prepare for the 150th birth anniversary celebration of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel through the nationwide ‘Run for Unity’ programme on October 31.
Bhattacharjee also condemned the recent violence at Shantirbazar in Dhalai district during the 24-hour strike called by the Tripura Civil Society on October 23, which had demanded implementation of the tripartite Tiprasa Accord signed last year.
When asked about the BJP’s current relationship with TIPRA Motha, Bhattacharjee confirmed that Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha had recently met TIPRA Motha founder Pradyot Kishore Debbarma, and that “dialogue between the two parties will continue.”
