Belonia Police OC Assaulted; Three Arrested

In a shocking incident that has sparked widespread outrage across Tripura, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Belonia Police Station, Shibu Ranjan Dey, was allegedly assaulted by a group of individuals after he attempted to stop a late-night DJ performance.

According to sources, the clash erupted when members of the Oriental Club reportedly created obstacles in allowing the Dashami procession of the 1 No. Tilla Merchant Association to pass through a designated route. To prevent further escalation, OC Dey intervened and tried to halt the loud music being played at the club’s event.

However, when he attempted to switch off the sound system, a section of the crowd allegedly turned violent. The officer was reportedly dragged down from the stage and physically assaulted by several individuals, resulting in chaos at the venue.

Following the incident, police swiftly launched an operation and arrested three persons believed to be involved in the attack. Authorities have confirmed that further investigations are underway to identify and apprehend the remaining culprits.

The assault on the officer has drawn strong condemnation from local residents, civil society groups, and fellow police personnel, who have demanded strict action against those responsible.

Senior officials have assured that the law will take its course and that attacks on on-duty police officers will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
