Tripura CM Launches ‘Sustha Shaishab, Sustha Kaishor Abhiyan 8.0’ in Teliamura

Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha on Friday emphasized that the nation’s future depends on the health and well-being of its younger generations. “If our future generation is not healthy, the state and the country will lag behind,” he said while inaugurating the “Sustha Shaishab, Sustha Kaishor Abhiyan 8.0” at Chitrangada Kala Kendra in Teliamura.

Drawing a comparison, the Chief Minister remarked, “Just as a sapling cannot grow without proper care, a child’s full development requires proper nurturing, nutrition, and education.” He added that the state government is committed to ensuring every child receives these basic needs through the ongoing campaign.

Dr. Saha said that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for holistic national development, child and adolescent health remains a key pillar. Highlighting the importance of Vitamin A supplementation, he noted that its deficiency could lead to vision problems, urging all families to ensure children receive Vitamin A doses.

He further stressed the need to promote mental well-being and healthy lifestyles among adolescents aged 10 to 19. The Chief Minister called for awareness against early marriage and motherhood before the age of 18, describing them as major barriers to the physical and mental growth of young girls. “This campaign is not merely a health initiative—it is a mission to build a developed Tripura. Every family, teacher, health worker, and administrative unit must actively participate to make it successful,” he said.

Speaking about improvements in the state’s healthcare sector, Dr. Saha said significant modernization has taken place in recent years. The bed capacity of GBP Hospital under Agartala Government Medical College has increased from 577 to 1,513, with plans to add 100 more beds. The government has also introduced the Bharat Mata Canteen Project to provide meals at ₹10 for patient attendants and free food for patients.

To enhance service quality, an MoU has recently been signed between GBP Hospital and AIIMS. The Chief Minister expressed confidence that Tripura will soon be recognized as one of the leading healthcare hubs in the Northeast.

He added that with the support of the National Health Mission, the state has made remarkable progress in maternal and child health. The Nikshay Poshan Yojana is also being implemented to achieve a TB-free Tripura, and over 99% of the population has been covered under the health campaign.
