Oct 24, 2025
Team India stormed into the semifinals of the ICC Women’s ODI Cricket World Cup with a commanding 53-run victory over New Zealand at the DY Patil Stadium on Thursday night.
Asked to bat first in a rain-affected encounter, India’s opening pair — Pratika Rawal and Smriti Mandhana — produced a record-breaking partnership to lay the foundation for a formidable total. The duo added 212 runs for the first wicket, the highest opening stand by India in Women’s World Cup history.
Rawal led the charge with a fluent 122, while Mandhana contributed a classy 109, as India posted a mammoth 340 for 3 in 49 overs.
In reply, New Zealand faced a revised DLS target of 325 from 44 overs. Despite a fighting 81 from Brooke Halliday, the Kiwi batters fell short, managing 271 for 8 at the end of their innings.
With this win, India consolidated their position in the tournament, finishing the group stage with six points from three victories. They now join Australia, England, and South Africa in the semifinals.
