Mizoram Could Become a “Poster State for Development” If BJP Wins, Says Kiren Rijiju

Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and senior BJP leader Kiren Rijiju on Thursday said that Mizoram could emerge as a “poster state for development” if the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) comes to power in the next state assembly elections.

Addressing a public rally at Reiek in Mamit district, Rijiju said that the proposal to improve road infrastructure between Reiek and Lengpui would be implemented if the BJP candidate wins the upcoming Dampa by-election, scheduled for November 11.

“The NDA government does not discriminate between states based on political affiliations,” Rijiju said, adding that even though the BJP currently has only two MLAs in the Mizoram Assembly, the central government remains committed to supporting the state’s development.

The Dampa constituency is set for a five-cornered contest in the by-election. Pu Lalhmingthanga will contest on a BJP ticket, while John Rotluangliana represents the Congress. The Mizo National Front (MNF) has fielded Dr. R. Lalthangliana, Vanlalsailova is contesting for the Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM), and K. Zahmingthanga represents the People’s Conference (PC) Party.

According to election officials, 41 polling stations have been set up across the constituency, each expected to serve around 507 voters. The Dampa constituency has a total of 20,790 registered voters, including 10,605 men and 10,185 women. Preparations for the by-election are reported to be in full swing.
