IED Blast on Railway Track Disrupts Train Services in Assam

Train services across Lower Assam and parts of North Bengal were disrupted for several hours after an improvised explosive device (IED) exploded on a railway track in Kokrajhar district shortly after midnight on Thursday, officials said.

The explosion occurred around five kilometres from Kokrajhar railway station, on the line towards Salakati. The blast damaged nearly three feet of the track, scattering metal fragments across the area, an official confirmed.

Kokrajhar Senior Superintendent of Police Pushpraj Singh said no casualties or derailments were reported in the incident. “The damage was restricted to a small stretch of the track, which was quickly repaired. Train movement has since resumed,” Singh stated.

Following the blast, railway and police personnel rushed to the site, and services were temporarily halted as a precautionary measure. Security has been heightened in the region, and an investigation is underway to identify those responsible for planting the explosive device.
