Annakut Festival Celebrated with Devotion at Jagannath Bari Temple in Agartala

The auspicious festival of Annakut was celebrated with great devotion and traditional fervor at the historic Jagannath Bari Temple in Agartala on Wednesday. Following age-old rituals and customs, devotees gathered to offer prayers and take part in this vibrant celebration dedicated to Lord Krishna.

Annakut, which literally means "mountain of food", is observed a day after Diwali and marks the beginning of the Hindu New Year in many regions. The festival commemorates the lifting of the Govardhan Hill by Lord Krishna to protect the people of Vrindavan from torrential rains.

As part of the celebrations, an elaborate array of food items—ranging from rice, lentils, vegetables, sweets, and other traditional delicacies—was prepared and offered to the deity. The food was artistically arranged in the temple premises, symbolizing gratitude for a bountiful harvest and divine blessings.

Priests at Jagannath Bari conducted the rituals in accordance with Vaishnavite traditions, including special pujas, bhajans, and aarti ceremonies. The temple witnessed a large footfall of devotees, many of whom received prasadam (blessed food) after the offerings.

Speaking to media, a temple priest said, “Annakut is one of the most significant festivals for the Jagannath Bari Temple. We strictly follow the traditional practices to maintain the sanctity of the event. It is heartening to see the growing enthusiasm among devotees every year.”
