Food Safety Raid at Diwali Fair in Matarbari: 14 Stalls Seized for Selling Substandard Food

In a proactive move to ensure public health and safety, a food safety inspection was carried out on Tuesday at the ongoing Diwali Fair in Matarbari. The raid was led by Food Safety Officer Milon Mondal, accompanied by Chief Food Inspector Debjyoti Chakraborty and a team of other officials.

The team inspected several temporary food stalls set up inside the fairground to assess the quality and hygiene standards of the food being sold. According to Officer Milon Mondal, the drive was conducted with the objective of preventing the sale of stale or harmful food that could pose health risks to visitors.

During the inspection, food items were seized from 14 stalls found to be selling substandard and foul-smelling food, which officials confirmed to be unsafe for human consumption. The confiscated food was later destroyed.

Speaking to the media, Officer Mondal urged the public to remain vigilant and report any instance of stale or spoiled food being sold at the fair. Complaints can be lodged directly with the food safety department by calling 9233898211.

Authorities have assured that such inspection drives will continue throughout the fair to maintain a safe and hygienic food environment for all visitors.
