Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reaffirmed India’s ambition to emerge as one of the top defence exporters globally, emphasizing the country’s growing capacity to manufacture and export cutting-edge military equipment across all three armed forces.
Addressing Indian Navy personnel onboard the indigenous aircraft carrier INS Vikrant off the Goa and Karwar coasts during Diwali celebrations, the Prime Minister highlighted India's progress in defence manufacturing and export potential.
“India is now building the capability to export weapons and defence equipment not just for our own needs, but for the world. Our goal is to make India one of the top defence exporters globally,” PM Modi said.
The Prime Minister noted that Indian-made missiles such as BrahMos and Akash have proven their effectiveness during Operation Sindoor, attracting interest from several countries. He underscored that India’s defence exports have grown more than 30-fold over the past decade, driven largely by the efforts of indigenous defence units and start-ups.
He also praised the spirit of Aatmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India), citing INS Vikrant as a shining symbol of India’s naval strength and engineering capabilities. “The commissioning of INS Vikrant marked not only a milestone in indigenous defence production but also a cultural shift, as the Indian Navy adopted a new flag inspired by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, replacing colonial-era symbols,” Modi said.
Celebrating Diwali with the Navy personnel, PM Modi expressed gratitude for the armed forces' unwavering commitment and service. He has consistently spent India’s major festivals with military personnel to boost morale and demonstrate solidarity.
