Tripura Shines Nationally: Bags 3 Top Awards for Tribal Welfare Excellence

In a landmark achievement, Tripura has secured three prestigious national awards for its exemplary implementation of tribal welfare initiatives. The state was declared the Best Performer in both the Dharti Aaba Janbhagidari Abhiyan and the PM-JANMAN (Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan) schemes, while North Tripura was named the Best District under PM-JANMAN.
The awards were formally presented by President Droupadi Murmu at a national ceremony held on October 17 at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi. Representing Tripura, Dr. K. Shashi Kumar, Secretary of the Tribal Welfare Department, and Chandni Chandran, District Magistrate of North Tripura, received the accolades.
Addressing a press conference on Saturday at the State Secretariat, Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma and Cooperation Minister Sukla Charan Noatia detailed the state’s efforts and achievements that led to national recognition.
Under the Dharti Aaba Janbhagidari Abhiyan, Tripura organised 4,036 service camps across the state, directly benefitting over 12.7 lakh (1.27 million) citizens. Key services delivered included: 55,958 Aadhaar cards issued, 43,424 caste certificates, 39,414 permanent residence certificates, 16,602 land titles (pattas), 27,049 Ayushman Bharat health cards, 15,841 beneficiaries enrolled under PM-Kisan, 12,105 Jan Dhan bank accounts opened, 24,963 life insurance beneficiaries under PMJJBY, 17,073 Kisan Credit Cards distributed, 6,493 Van Dhan Yojana beneficiaries, 8,863 new LPG connections under PM Ujjwala, 15,321 new ration cards issued.
Minister Noatia highlighted that under PM-JANMAN, the state has targeted 65,840 Reang tribal families for inclusive development. The scheme, spanning 11 government departments, has received a funding allocation of ₹523.27 crore for 2024–25, with ₹322.06 crore already utilized.
Infrastructure and service delivery milestones under the scheme include: 15,548 permanent houses constructed, 141 functional Anganwadi centres, 38,014 households provided with drinking water, 11,692 households electrified, 10 mobile towers installed in remote areas, 18 multi-utility community centres built, 30 Van Dhan Vikas Kendras established, 205 km of new roads under construction.
Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma emphasized the state’s commitment to ensuring that no eligible beneficiary is left behind. “Our government is working relentlessly to bring every welfare scheme to the doorstep of the last person in society,” he stated.
Also present at the press meet were senior officials including Dr. K. Shashi Kumar and Adhikat Das, who reiterated the department's dedication to sustainable tribal development.
