In a significant move to enhance healthcare infrastructure and services in Tripura, the state government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi.
The MoU was signed on Wednesday at Tripura Bhawan in New Delhi, in the presence of Tripura Chief Minister and Health Minister, Prof. Dr. Manik Saha, along with senior officials from the state Health Department and AIIMS Delhi Director, Dr. M. Srinivas.
Speaking at the event, Chief Minister Dr. Saha expressed pride in the collaboration and said that the initiative aims to transform Tripura's medical colleges and hospitals into centres of excellence for advanced medical education and super-specialty healthcare services, matching international standards.
"This MoU is a proud moment for us. Our goal is to make the state’s healthcare system more robust and self-reliant. With AIIMS Delhi's support, we plan to upgrade institutions like Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) and GB Pant Hospital into a modern medical hub, modeled on AIIMS Delhi," said Dr. Saha.
He further emphasized AIIMS’s global reputation in medical education, research, and patient care, noting that this collaboration marks a major step towards elevating the quality and reach of healthcare services across the state.
"With this partnership, not only will healthcare services improve in Tripura, but we also aim to reduce the need for patients to travel outside the state for advanced treatment," he added.
This agreement is expected to focus on capacity building, knowledge sharing, clinical training, and technical support to help elevate Tripura’s healthcare delivery systems.
The event witnessed the participation of top officials from both AIIMS Delhi and the Tripura Health and Family Welfare Department.
