PM Modi and Mongolian President Khurelsukh Hold Bilateral Talks in New Delhi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Mongolian President Khurelsukh Ukhnaa held delegation-level talks in New Delhi on Tuesday, reaffirming the deep-rooted strategic, cultural, and spiritual ties between India and Mongolia. The discussions led to the signing of several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) aimed at strengthening cooperation across diverse sectors.

During the meeting, both sides exchanged MoUs on humanitarian aid, restoration of Mongolian heritage sites, immigration cooperation, geology and mineral resources, promotion of cooperatives, and the sharing of digital solutions. The leaders also jointly released commemorative stamps to mark the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations.

Speaking at a joint press conference, Prime Minister Modi highlighted the spiritual and civilizational connection between India and Mongolia, particularly through the shared Buddhist heritage. He announced that India would offer free e-visas to Mongolian citizens and sponsor the annual visit of young Mongolian cultural ambassadors to India.

“Our relationship is not just diplomatic—it is soulful and spiritual,” said Prime Minister Modi, referring to the centuries-old Buddhist linkages. He emphasized the historical role of Nalanda University in the development of Buddhism in Mongolia and announced plans to establish a formal connection between Nalanda and Mongolia’s Gandan Monastery to further cultural exchange.

Prime Minister Modi also reiterated India’s support for Mongolia’s development, noting the ongoing Oil Refinery Project being built with a $1.7 billion line of credit from India. He said the project would significantly boost Mongolia’s energy security and economic self-reliance.

President Khurelsukh Ukhnaa expressed deep appreciation for India’s continued support, particularly in the energy sector. He described the MoU on digital cooperation as a landmark step toward building a modern, technology-driven partnership between the two countries.

The Mongolian President, who arrived in New Delhi on Monday for a four-day official visit, began his trip by paying tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat. Later today, he is scheduled to meet President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan, where a state banquet will be hosted in his honour.

President Khurelsukh is accompanied by a high-level delegation, including Cabinet Ministers, Members of Parliament, senior officials, business leaders, and cultural representatives. This marks his first official visit to India as President of Mongolia.
