Taliban Claims to Have Killed 58 Pakistani Soldiers in Retaliatory Border Clash

In a major escalation of cross-border tensions, the Taliban government has claimed that at least 58 Pakistani soldiers were killed and over 30 others wounded in retaliatory attacks near the Durand Line, following Pakistani airstrikes inside Afghan territory.
Speaking at a press conference in Kabul on Sunday, Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid said that Afghan forces launched a coordinated counterattack in the Behrampur district, a volatile region near the disputed border, resulting in heavy casualties among Pakistani forces. He also claimed that 25 Pakistani military posts were captured during the operation.
Mujahid warned Islamabad that “no attack will go unanswered” and accused Pakistan of harboring ISIS militants within its borders. “We will defend our airspace and land at all costs,” he said. “Anyone who violates our sovereignty will face a strong response.”
He further asserted that Afghan forces now have complete control over all official border crossings and de facto frontlines.
The situation follows recent Pakistani airstrikes reportedly targeting militant hideouts inside Afghanistan, which Islamabad claimed were used by insurgent groups staging attacks in Pakistan’s tribal regions. However, Afghan authorities condemned the strikes as a violation of their territorial integrity.
As of now, the Pakistani military has not confirmed the casualty figures or the alleged loss of outposts. Independent verification remains difficult due to restricted access to the conflict zones.
