In a major step toward transforming the capital city’s urban landscape, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Friday dedicated the newly revitalized MBB College Lake to the people of Tripura.
The picturesque site, located adjacent to Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) College in Agartala, has been redeveloped under the Agartala Smart City Mission with financial assistance from the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
Speaking at the dedication ceremony, Dr. Saha said the transformation of the MBB College Lake into a vibrant open space marks a significant milestone in Agartala’s journey toward modernization and environmental sustainability.
“Its revitalization reflects our government’s commitment to creating a green, clean, and sustainable city that complements Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of urban transformation,” said the Chief Minister.
Dr. Saha described the new lake site as a “feather in the cap of Tripura’s tourism sector”, expressing confidence that it would soon emerge as a popular recreational and eco-tourism destination for both residents and visitors. He urged citizens to take collective responsibility in maintaining the site and preventing any anti-social activities.
The Chief Minister also highlighted several other ongoing and upcoming development projects in and around Agartala, including the Ring Road, new flyover, Unity Mall, satellite township, and Haora riverfront development, all of which aim to boost connectivity, tourism, and the quality of life in the city.
Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharjee, Agartala Mayor Dipak Majumder, Deputy Mayor Manika Das Dutta, Advocate General Shaktimoy Chakraborty, Dr. Shailesh Kumar Yadav, CEO & MD of Agartala Smart City Mission, and D. K. Chakma, Commissioner of Agartala Municipal Corporation were present in the programme.
The rejuvenated MBB College Lake now features modern landscaping, walking tracks, improved lighting, sitting areas, and enhanced water conservation systems, making it an ideal open space for recreation, exercise, and community gatherings. Officials from the Smart City Mission informed that the project was designed to preserve the lake’s natural beauty while introducing amenities that promote leisure and tourism.
