Tripura is all set to join the rest of the country in the grand launch of the ‘Mission for Aatmanirbharta in Pulses’ and Jan Dhan Kisan Yojana, a nationwide initiative aimed at achieving self-reliance in pulse production and empowering farmers.
The national-level event will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 11 at 10:00 AM, in a move expected to significantly boost India's pulse production and reduce dependence on imports.
In Tripura, the state-level programme will be held at the State Agriculture Research Station (SARS), A.D. Nagar, Agartala. The event will be graced by Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha, who will address farmers, agricultural experts, and officials, highlighting the mission's importance for Tripura’s agricultural future.
Ahead of the launch, State Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath attended a virtual meeting with Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan to review the preparations and ensure smooth coordination for the programme across all states.
The Mission for Aatmanirbharta in Pulses aims to enhance domestic production, ensure food security, and increase farmers' income by providing better access to markets, financial support, and improved technology. When integrated with the Jan Dhan Kisan Yojana, the initiative is expected to further bolster financial inclusion and direct benefit transfers to farmers’ accounts.
The Tripura government has expressed strong support for the mission, reaffirming its commitment to promote pulse cultivation as a sustainable and profitable agricultural practice across the state.
This ambitious initiative is a key part of the central government’s larger vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India), focusing on agricultural resilience, rural empowerment, and economic independence.
