In a significant boost to tribal education in the district, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Thursday inaugurated a newly constructed Eklavya Model Residential School (EMRS) with a capacity of 480 seats in the village of Pravapur, Jampuijala block, Sepahijala district.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said that the EMRS will provide high-quality residential education to children from tribal and underprivileged communities in the region. He emphasized the government's commitment to inclusive development and the empowerment of tribal youth through education.
“Education is the cornerstone of progress. With this new facility, we aim to bridge the gap that remote areas have faced in accessing quality schooling,” Dr Said, adding that the EMRSs will help tribal students, especially belonging to the vulnerable tribal group, access quality education, which will further develop the state of Tripura.
The chief minister said that the EMRSs will not only provide quality education to students but will also focus on skill development and extracurricular activities to ensure their holistic growth.
Presently, 2,475 tribal students are admitted to at least 12 EMRSs in the state, Dr Saha said. He said that 6 more EMRSs will be opened in the state by March 2026 in Ampi, Hezamara, Chaumanu, Amarapur, Mandwai and Manu.
Chief Minister Dr. Saha said that the state government is committed to the development of tribal communities, following the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has always given due importance to the welfare of tribal people. He noted that this is reflected in the appointment of Droupadi Murmu as the President of India and Jishnu Dev Varma, a member of the royal family, as the Governor of a major state like Telangana.
