India’s Defence Minister Rajnath Singh arrived in Canberra on Thursday as part of his official visit aimed at strengthening strategic and defence cooperation between India and Australia. He was received at the Royal Australian Air Force Base by Australia’s Assistant Minister for Defence, Peter Khalil.
In a social media post following his arrival, Singh expressed enthusiasm about the visit and highlighted his anticipation for the upcoming bilateral meeting with Australia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister, Richard Marles.
“This visit reflects the growing depth of the India-Australia strategic partnership, particularly in the area of defence cooperation,” Singh said.
During his stay, the Defence Minister is expected to engage in high-level discussions focused on regional security, defence industry collaboration, and enhancing military-to-military engagements between the two Indo-Pacific partners.
India and Australia have significantly expanded their defence ties in recent years, with both nations participating in joint military exercises, defence dialogues, and strategic initiatives aimed at ensuring a free, open, and inclusive Indo-Pacific region.
