In a significant push to improve educational and cultural infrastructure in Arunachal Pradesh, Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Tuesday laid the foundation stone for the new campus of Namdapha Degree College at Namchik Charali, ahead of the Cabinet Aapke Dwar programme in Miao.
Accompanied by members of his cabinet, the Chief Minister said the new college campus would mark a major milestone in the region’s development, offering enhanced learning facilities and greater access to higher education for the youth of the area. He expressed confidence that the institution would foster academic growth and contribute to the socio-economic upliftment of the local community.
Later, the Chief Minister inaugurated the Carpet Weaving Centre at the Choephelling Tibetan Settlement in Miao. Addressing the gathering, Khandu highlighted the cultural and historical significance of Tibetan handmade carpets, which have been awarded the prestigious Geographical Indication (GI) tag.
He praised the artistry and craftsmanship behind each carpet, noting that they reflect a centuries-old tradition passed down through generations. "This centre is not just about preserving a cultural heritage—it is about empowering local artisans, sustaining livelihoods, and showcasing Arunachal Pradesh’s rich legacy to the world," Khandu said.
The new facility is expected to boost traditional craftsmanship, provide training and employment opportunities, and promote the region’s unique identity on a larger platform.
