In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, the Assam Rifles, in a joint operation with the Customs Department, seized a large consignment of narcotics in the Singhichhara area of Agartala on Sunday.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs, the joint team intercepted two trucks that were transporting cement as a cover for smuggling drugs. A thorough search of the vehicles led to the recovery of 69.61 kilograms of Yaba tablets, with an estimated street value of Rs 69.61 crore. Four individuals involved in the trafficking attempt were taken into custody.
According to officials, the operation was a follow-up to a previous drug seizure conducted on September 29 in Mohanpur, Tripura. Intelligence gathered from that incident helped authorities identify key smuggling routes and networks operating in the region, which ultimately led to Sunday’s successful bust.
In a press release, the Assam Rifles reaffirmed their commitment to fighting the drug menace in the Northeast. “This operation demonstrates our continued resolve to dismantle drug networks and safeguard our society from the threat of narcotics,” the statement said.
Known as the “Sentinels of the North East,” the Assam Rifles continue to work closely with other law enforcement agencies to combat the growing threat of drug trafficking across the region.
