Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy and CM Pema Khandu Inaugurate Namchik Namphuk Coal Mine


Union Minister for Coal and Mines, G. Kishan Reddy, along with Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu, inaugurated the Namchik Namphuk Coal Mine in Changlang district on Monday, marking a significant milestone for the region’s energy and economic development.

The inauguration began with a traditional bhumi pujan ceremony, symbolizing the commencement of full-scale operations at the long-awaited coal mine. With an estimated reserve of 1.5 crore tonnes of coal, the mine officially became operational from the day of the inauguration.

Speaking at the event, Minister Reddy described the project as a “symbol of new hope” for Arunachal Pradesh and the entire Northeast region. He highlighted the strategic importance of coal in India's energy mix, stating, "Coal remains the backbone of our energy sector and a key driver of national development." He further noted that India is the second-largest producer and consumer of coal globally and holds the fifth-largest coal reserves in the world.

The Union Minister expressed confidence that the newly operational coal mine would create substantial employment opportunities for the local youth, boosting socio-economic development in the state.

Chief Minister Pema Khandu, in his address, said the Namchik Namphuk Coal Field is expected to generate approximately Rs 100 crore in annual revenue for the state. He emphasized that the state and central governments are working in close coordination to operationalize more coal fields in the region, which would further strengthen the state's economy and benefit local communities.
