Lakshmi Puja Celebrations Begin in Agartala with Vedic Chants and Traditional Rituals

Homes across Agartala were illuminated with devotion and tradition on Monday as residents began celebrating Lakshmi Puja, invoking the blessings of the Hindu goddess of wealth and prosperity. The auspicious occasion, observed on the full moon night of Ashwin, saw households performing rituals steeped in Vedic tradition and cultural significance.

From early morning, families began preparing for the evening rituals — cleaning their homes, drawing intricate alpana (floor art) with rice paste, and decorating entrances with garlands and earthen lamps. As dusk approached, the air filled with the sound of conch shells, the rhythmic chanting of Vedic mantras, and the scent of incense, creating an atmosphere of spiritual reverence.

Dressed in traditional attire, devotees offered prayers to Goddess Lakshmi with fruits, sweets, flowers, and specially prepared dishes. Many households invited priests to conduct the Lakshmi Aradhana, where sacred hymns from the Vedas were recited to invoke divine blessings for prosperity and well-being.

Markets in Agartala witnessed heavy footfall in the days leading up to the festival. People thronged shops to purchase idols, new clothes, decorative items, and sweets. Local sweet shops did brisk business, with traditional confections like narus, laddus, and sandesh flying off the shelves.
