Minister Sudhangshu Das Attends Annual Review Meet of AICRP on Pig in Agartala

Minister for Scheduled Caste Welfare, Fisheries, and Animal Resources Development (ARDD) Sudhangshu Das attended the Annual Review Meeting (2024–2025) of the All India Coordinated Research Project (AICRP) on Pig on Tuesday. The event was held at Pragya Bhavan, Agartala.
The meeting brought together scientists, researchers, and stakeholders from across the country to review the ongoing developments and achievements under the AICRP on Pig. Discussions focused on strengthening piggery as a means of improving rural livelihoods, ensuring nutritional security, and enhancing the overall self-reliance of the state in livestock production.
Addressing the gathering, Minister Das emphasized the importance of developing the piggery sector as a key component of rural economic growth. He highlighted the government's commitment to promoting sustainable livestock farming and supporting farmers involved in pig rearing.
“Strengthening this sector will not only enhance nutritional security but also contribute towards making our state more self-reliant in piggery and support our livestock farmers,” the Minister said.
The Minister also acknowledged the efforts of agricultural and veterinary scientists in advancing the sector through research and innovation. He encouraged further collaboration between research institutions and local farmers to ensure that modern techniques and findings reach the grassroots level.
The AICRP on Pig is a flagship initiative under the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), aimed at improving pig production through scientific breeding, nutrition, and management practices tailored to regional needs.
