On Engineers’ Day, CM Dr Manik Saha urges use of innovative tech for state, nation’s progress

Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha on Monday stressed the crucial role of engineers in shaping the future of both the state and the nation through the creation of modern infrastructure. He was speaking at the inauguration of the 58th Engineers’ Day celebrations at Agartala Pragna Bhavan.
“Proper infrastructure is the backbone of development. With the use of innovative technologies, engineers can take our state and country forward in the right direction,” the Chief Minister said.
Engineers’ Day is celebrated every year on the birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna M. Visvesvaraya, one of India’s greatest engineers. The event began with the Chief Minister and other dignitaries paying floral tribute to Visvesvaraya.
Highlighting India’s rapid technological advancement, Dr. Saha said, “From space research to defence, our country has reached a leading position in the world thanks to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision and initiatives. His emphasis on innovation and skill development has enabled India to rise to the fourth position in the global economy.”
The Chief Minister noted that Tripura too is adopting advanced technology in various sectors including agriculture, healthcare, electricity, and public services. “From the state assembly to panchayat offices, e-office facilities have been introduced. Airtel is also setting up the largest data centre in the Northeast in Tripura,” he informed.
On this occasion, Dr. Saha extended greetings to engineers across the state and urged them to contribute with greater dedication and sincerity towards infrastructure development. Earlier in the day, he and other guests inaugurated a voluntary blood donation camp at Pragya Bhavan and encouraged donors.
Chief Secretary J.K. Sinha, in his address, emphasized the need for engineers to think innovatively and utilize local resources with advanced technology for the state’s progress. Power Department Secretary Abhishek Singh, PWD Secretary Kiran Gitte, and IEI Tripura Chapter Chairman Parmananda Sarkar Banerjee also addressed the gathering.
PWD’s Chief Architect Rajib Debbarma delivered the welcome speech, while NIT Agartala Director Dr. S.K. Patra spoke on the theme “Deep Tech and Engineering Excellence for Driving India’s Techhead.”
Eminent engineer Sushanta Dutta was conferred with the Engineer of the Year 2025 award. As part of the celebrations, a morning procession was held, and local entrepreneurs distributed fruits among cancer patients.
The programme was jointly organized by the PWD and the Institute of Engineers (India), Agartala Chapter.
