CM Dr Manik Saha attends closing ceremony of Neermahal water festival; Highlights tourism development plans

The three-day-long Neermahal Water Festival came to a grand close on Sunday at Rajghat, Melaghar, with Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha stressing the need to promote the history, heritage, and cultural significance of Neermahal and Rudrasagar Lake at national and international levels.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said, “Neermahal is one of the finest water palaces in India. Its beauty and natural environment are key attractions for tourists. If we promote it widely, more visitors from across the country and abroad will come here, which will improve the local economy.”

He highlighted that Neermahal has been included in the Swadesh Darshan programme, under which several projects are being implemented to strengthen Tripura’s tourism industry. He also pointed out that the government is giving priority to rural development, women’s empowerment through 60,000 self-help groups, and preserving peace to build Ek Tripura, Shrestha Tripura.

The closing ceremony was presided over by Higher Education Minister Kishore Barman, who said Neermahal and Rudrasagar are integral to the livelihoods and pride of local people.

MLA Tafazzal Hossain, Sipahijala Zilla Parishad Chairperson Supriya Das Dutta and District Magistrate Dr. Siddharth Shiv Jaiswal and other dignitaries were also present.

As part of the festivities, traditional boat races, a state-level swimming competition, a sub-divisional yoga contest, and cultural programmes such as Mansamangal were organized. After the competitions, the Chief Minister along with other dignitaries distributed prizes to the winners.
